Causes & Cures of Academic and Behavior Problems

Understanding how the executive brain develops helps explain why so many students have difficulty getting work completed or why they struggle with relationships and self-control. Poor study habits, inattentiveness, inefficient memory and disruptive behavior are generally symptoms of deeper problems that teachers and parents need to be aware of. This session helps participants identify root causes for learning and behavior problems and provides practical solutions that all teachers can apply in the classroom.

What To Do When You Don't Know What To Do (Nuts and Bolts of Implementing RtI and the Pyramid of Interventions)

Working on the wrong problem takes as much time as working on the right one. One makes you frustrated and the other gets results. In this session we will learn, practice and apply the following skills:

    1.   Diagnosing problems down to the root cause

    2.  Setting specific DATA goals for addressing the problems

    3.  Creating interventions and accommodations that are research-based and match the RtI thinking

    4.  Data collection and application of that information

    5.  Involving parents and students in taking responsibility for problem-solving

    6.  Putting a systemic plan in place (revising the IAT practices by using building coaches
