ASD Network

Audience:
Early Childhood Teachers, Early Childhood Special Education Teachers, Speech/Language Pathologists, Administrators, and other staff who work with young children with Autism

Description:
Working with young children with Autism (3-5 years old) can be rewarding and challenging.  Working with young children with Autism and problematic behavior can be even more  difficult. This workshop will look at important principles of behavior and how to apply them to young children with Autism.  We will look at strategies from a highly effective model that allows educators of young children to better understand how to identify the function of the behavior and create a plan to reduce challenging behavior while increasing contextually appropriate behaviors.  Participants will have an opportunity to begin this process for a target student with contextually inappropriate behaviors.

Participants will:
-Understand the principles of behavior and how they apply to young children with Autism
-Understand how to determine the function of a child’s behavior
-How to develop an individualized behavior plan that is appropriate for a young child with Autism (Determine target behavior, function(s) of the behavior and interventions that match the function of the behavior)
-How to successfully implement the Behavior Plan
