DescriptionPlay is Not as Easy as it Looks:  How to Teach Joint Attention and Object Based Play to Young Children with ASD or Other Developmental Disabilities

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Presenter: Teri McGill, Metro Region ASD Network Coordinator

Audience:  Early Childhood Teachers (2 yrs.-8 yrs.), Special Education Teachers, SLP’s, Para Educators, Parents and other staff working with young children with Autism or other Developmental Disabilities.

Participants will learn: 
  • Overview of core deficits of young children with ASD
  • Why joint attention is important and strategies for teaching joint attention
  • Importance of using ABA to teach young children with ASD
  • How to teach object play using simple imitation
  • How to teach multi-step play schemes to children with ASD
  • How to structure play environment and play activities for young children with ASD
