Description

This workshop is an interactive day with performing artist, Andy Hackbarth, http://andyhackbarth.com/, in which students and teachers look at the theory of modern music, including Top 40 radio, rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, and bluegrass.  Students will explore structural, melodic, rhythmic, and “choral” traits of each style of music. Musical examples are taken from popular, current songs (e.g., Taylor Swift, Brittany Spears, Brad Paisley, Jason Mraz, etc.).  Time will be spent on the elements of math and its presence in all music.

Ample time will be allocated for students to write, record, and perform their own music using the principles and techniques covered earlier in the day.

Students do not have to be able to read music.

Students do not have to perform their own work.

If students know how to play a stringed instrument they may elect to bring it to the workshop.

Lunch is provided.  If students have dietary concerns please note in the registration process.

Teachers are active participants and should be part of the day's events including supervision and participation. Sponsoring teachers will need a printed list of all student names present and turned in at check in.

REGISTRATION NOTE: By registering for this workshop, your district will be put on the waitlist.  The workshop will stay open for registration until one month before the workshop is scheduled to take place.  Once closed, the available spots will be divided amongst the districts who are on the wait list.
