ESU #3, NDE, and member schools of ESU #3 are seeking authoring teams. Student author teams will use iBook Author software to create Nebraska history books for Nebraska 4th graders. Author, illustrators, and technicians are sought for this project. Schools may register a minimum of two students and maximum of 12 students. At least one collaborating teacher per school is required.
The goals of “NE iBook Project” include:
1. Student author teams will learn the use of iBook Author software to create interactive e-books.
2. Students will create interactive iBooks about Nebraska communities to help teach Nebraska history to a 4th grade audience.
3. Teachers and students will be collaborative partners with ESU #3, Nebraska State Historical Society, NDE, and multiple school districts for the creation of one iBook per school.
The objectives of “NE iBook Project” include:
1. Partner schools will attend an ESU #3 iBook training on October 17, 2016
2. Student teams will work from a storyboard outline that collects images, text, URL sources, video, and other digital content that will be used within iBook Author.
3. Each school will produce at least one iBook project that has multiple chapters, including interactive text, video, URLS, and widgets within iBook Author.
4. Content for the iBooks must be about Nebraska history.
5. Student books will have chapters in which multiple students may collaborate on one book with one theme.
6. Completed iBooks have the option of submitting to the NDE iBooks Project.
Requirements:
· Participants must have school access to MAC IOS 10.6 for student use. (Ask about a way to work around to 10.6)
· Items to be brought to the ESU #3 iBook Authoring workshop on October 17, 2016 include:
· Two word processing files saved to a Pages or Google Doc or .doc file: Topic of the word processing files must be about Nebraska, each file needs to be at least 500 words, spell checked, and proofread.
· A saved word processing file which lists a minimum of five web sites that give additional information about the topic.
· Five saved .jpeg images that are used to tell the story or give information related to the content, with links that provide the source of the images.
· Optional items to include are .mov files, web sites that have video available about the topic, and any Keynote/PowerPoint files you have that can accompany the final product.
· All materials should be brought to the workshop on a flash drive or access via Google Drive or portable device.

Teachers are active participants and should be part of the day's events including supervision and participation. Sponsoring teachers will need a printed list of all student names present and turned in at check in.
