Description

Nebraska turns 150 on March 1, 2017!   Students and teachers involved in this project will contribute to the Nebraska 150 celebration by designing a QR Code that encourages community members and visitors to use mobile devices/mobile technology to learn more about the Cornhusker State.  In an attempt to preserve and share oral history, students will read primary source accounts of Nebraska in and around 1867.

·         The Design an Interactive Nebraska QR Code Trail: Celebrate Nebraska 150 Project could be done locally in respective counties by creating QR codes for town and cemetery walks/talks allowing community members to learn more about their county residents and events 150 years ago. Use creative technology to share Nebraska’s history through the voices and relics of those who settled here.  QR Code users and creators will be able follow the Nebraska story in an interactive “next generation” tech experience.

·         This project could be approached statewide by designing QR Codes that are embedded in all 93 counties on State Historical Markers providing “additional tales, vintage photos, museum item links, video interviews/chats, NE trivia, etc.”.

Participating students/teachers will work directly with local county/state historical museum staff and genealogical groups to dig deeper into the lives of pioneering Nebraskans with the guidance of an ESU 3 presenter/facilitator, Lori Strohm.  Ms. Strohm, will meet with students and teachers for up to 6 hours at your school to organize how to contribute to the project. She will provide Nebraska history overview activities and feature several favorite Nebraska stories as a way to introduce the project at your school.  In addition, QR Code how-to information and assistance will be provided.

The goal is to complete your Nebraska history QR Code by April 1, 2017 to share with the Nebraska 150 Celebration.  ESU #3 will collect QR Codes and work to represent you with Nebraska 150 Celebration.
