Description

Building a Community of Learners: Meeting the Needs of All Students Through Social and Emotional Learning

SEMINAR FLYER

ESU #3 is excited to announce an opportunity made possible because of our friends & partners in Millard Public Schools!

SEL is not new, the latest trend, or another thing for teachers to do. Great teachers have been implementing its principles for years. What is new? The body of research substantiating the contents as a means to build healthy students and relationships. Through what teachers are already doing--managing classrooms, questioning students, working with students in small groups, and facilitating students working in groups--social emotional learning curriculum can easily be implemented throughout every K-12 classroom in a school system. #BeKind!

Teachers and administrators are invited to attend a series of workshops focused on the fundamentals of Social and Emotional Learning, which are foundational to sustaining a #BeKind environment.

The mornings of each session will be led by Matt Scott and Ellen Kramer, Instructional Facilitators from Millard Public Schools. Along with their colleagues & MPS leadership, they have recently begun working with educators in Millard to use SEL as a transformative component in all classrooms. The afternoons will be a chance for attending educators to adapt what they have learned and begin action research planning to implement the strategies-- try THIS, monitor/assess it HOW, reflect, make adjustments, repeat.

Series Dates: September 26th, November 14th, March 27th, April 24th

  • Please attend all that you can; however, participants may register for 1 to all 4 of the sessions in the series.
  • Participants must register for EACH of the sessions individually.
  • Agendas for days 2, 3, 4 will be adaptive to the needs of the group but will follow the same form; Ellen and Matt in the morning with direct instruction on SEL, followed by guided practice in the afternoon.
  • All necessary materials, a light breakfast, and an afternoon snack will be provided. Lunch will be on participants' own--feel free to bring a lunch and enjoy it at ESU #3 or head out and grab a quick bite.
