School Psychologist Professional Learning & Collaboration Series

March 31, 2021 - Promoting Equity through Multi-Level, Data-Informed Approaches
Presented by:  Dr. Celeste Malone

Schools have the responsibility to promote equitable outcomes for all students; however, national data demonstrate persistent racial/ethnic and socioeconomic inequities in special education identification and the use of exclusionary discipline practices. Under the Every Student Succeeds Act, school administrators are tasked with collecting and analyzing local, school-wide data to ensure that all students have equitable opportunities to experience school success. In this workshop, participants will learn about four key interrelated indicators of educational equity and develop a plan to collect and analyze school-wide data to identify student subgroups at risk for inequitable education outcomes. Participants will also discuss the root causes of disproportionality and identify individual and school-wide strategies to promote equitable outcomes for all students.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe the four key interrelated indicators of school equity (i.e., achievement status,
educational opportunities, social-emotional supports, climate and culture)
• Identify school-wide sources to assess the key interrelated indicators of school equity
• Describe a multidimensional view of bias and conceptual model of disproportionality
• Identify strategies to address implicit bias at both individual and systems levels
• Describe school-wide interventions to address disproportionality in special education and
  school discipline
