Purposeful collaboration spurs action, resulting in higher student achievement and creating a network of teachers that work smarter together, not harder in isolation. Building a collaborative culture is simply a means to an end, not the end itself. The purpose of collaboration – to help more students achieve at higher levels - can only be accomplished if the professionals engaged in collaboration are focused on the right work (Learning by Doing 59). Collaboration must focus on answering the Four Critical Questions of a PLC in order to move from mere groups to effective teams.
In this hands-on training, general and special educators will engage in utilizing PLC best practices to further develop collaborative partnerships, close achievement gaps, and maximize learning for all. Educators will solidify this sustainable system and mindset of collaboration, building upon a PLC foundation of shared knowledge and vocabulary as a part of a Tier 1 foundation. Participants may also discuss the process of identifying essential standards to answer PLC Question 1: What is it we want our students to know and be able to do? and PLC Question 2: How will we know if they have learned it?
