Description

Tom Schimmer is an author and a speaker with expertise in assessment, grading, leadership, and behavioral support. He is a former district level leader, school administrator, and teacher. (Solution Tree Web: www.solutiontree.com)

Day 1 - The development of a standards-based mindset is the oft-overlooked, but the essential first step for long-term grading reform. In this first session, Tom will outline how to take a standards-based approach to grading, even when a traditional grading and reporting paradigm exists. The non-negotiable grading true north of accuracy and confidence will be featured, as well as the three essential practices that serve as the cornerstone for developing a standards-based mindset will be explored.

Day 2 -  This follow-up session will begin with participants sharing some of their initial implementation efforts based on the content from session one. Then, Tom will take a deeper dive on a few of the topics (reassessment, accountability) critical to solidifying assessment and grading reform efforts. Finally, participants will be provided some extended planning time to determine next steps for taking their reform efforts to scale.

Participants will also receive the best selling book Grading From the Inside Out. "This book takes the reader through the process of establishing a new mindset, followed by new practices that will alter the grading and reporting realities within any classroom." (Schimmer, 5)

Intended Audience: School Level Teams, Administrators, School Leaders Participants will participate BOTH days for one registration fee.
