Description | | Instructional Strategies for Functional Programming for Students with Autism and Complex Needs
Audience: This workshop is for Resource Teachers, SLPs, Counselors, Psychologists, Teachers/Staff, Parents of students with autism or anyone supporting students with autism and complex needs.
Description: In this workshop, participants will briefly examine functional curricula and learn the importance of functional skills in their programming. We will look at a variety of instructional strategies to teach functional programming including errorless teaching using discrete trials and verbal behavior both in the classroom and in the natural environment. Then we will look at strategies to generalize skills in the natural environment including individual natural environment lesson plans, small group lesson plans, verbal modules, working walks, structured teach activities and using books and magazines. This is a hands-on workshop with lots of opportunities to practice the strategies with partners or in a small group.
