Description

Using Park Service Resources to tell your story is a developing curriculum and a traveling trunk that will be used in conjunction with the National Park Service (NPS) centennial "Find Your Park" and "Tell Your Park Story" initiative. This program will be continued from the 2015-16 school year and has been updated for 2016-17.

Students will learn about the history of the NPS, the founding fathers, and explore the hands-on trunk filled with books and items about Theodore Roosevelt, John Muir, and special selections for the National Parks with favorites like Muir Woods, Alcatraz, and other parks of interest.  Students will present presentations, use the trunk of resources, and select a park of their choice to research.

The goal will be for students to use what they learn to create a unique format for sharing their park with others and the NPS.  Possible products could include original music, iBook Author book creations, poetry, living history roles with presentations, photography, and art.

Schools registering for the "traveling trunk" are also arranging for 5 hours of Lori Strohm’s time to come to your school for consulting and working with students.
