Using tools such as ASCD’s Principal Leadership Development Framework and the Principals’ Continuum of Self-Reflection (both described in great detail in The Principal Influence: A framework for building leadership capacity in principals – ASCD, 2016), former principal and best-selling author Pete Hall describes the launching-off point: identifying and committing to a clear, compelling mission (blending the mission and vision together). Once we’ve all embraced this all-encompassing goal, all our actions, decisions, and efforts are aligned to ensure that we achieve incredible success, and our work as instructional leaders can truly begin.
