Description

How do we in education ensure that student work is graded fairly, accurately, consistently and in ways supportive of their learning without compromising rigor or responsibility?

Join international consultant, author, administrator, and teacher Myron Dueck from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. on October 19th as he works with K-12 educators from Bennington Public Schools to process the current draft of their new District Grading Framework.  Myron will provide expert insights, experiences, and research in response to each component of the framework.

Myron Dueck is a vice-principal, teacher, and author from SD 67 in British Columbia, Canada.  He has previously taught in Manitoba and on the South Island of New Zealand.  Over the past 21 years of teaching, Myron has experience in a variety of subjects ranging from grades 4 to 12.  Beginning in 2006, Myron has developed a number of assessment and grading systems with his classes.  His students have had greater opportunity to show what they know and adapt to feedback they receive.  As a teaching and administrative leader, Myron has been a part of district work groups, school assessment committees, and governmental bodies that have further broadened his access to innovative steps taken with others.  Through speaking of his experiences and showing a variety of student-friendly grading and assessment procedures, Myron has visited many school districts and conference across North America, South America, and Europe.

Myron has twice been published in Educational Leadership magazine.  His best-selling book, Grading Smarter, Not Harder--Assessment Strategies that Motivate Kids and Help Them Learn was released by ASCD in 2014.  Myron’s articles & blogs resonated with the Bennington Public Schools District Grading Study Committee; and, one of the district’s professional learning actions this year is to engage in an all-staff study of his book.
