Workshop | | Building a Successful Math Program for Students: 3 Day Series |
Department | | ESU#3 Professional Learning |
Default Contact | | Scott Blum |
Default Location | | Cass / Douglas Rooms |
|
Description | | In an effort to create a system of elementary mathematics
instruction to support the math learning of all students, this
professional learning program will encompass a two-year commitment focused on
effective classroom room instruction at Tier 1 and the use of data and
problem-solving to support students at Tier 2 and Tier 3.
The goal of the training is to support teacher
instruction as well as to build system practices to enhance both math
instruction and an MTSS protocol within your schools. Six professional
development sessions will be offered over two years. Each ESU #3 member
district will have the opportunity to send one team consisting of up to 4 team
members (administrator (required), special education teacher, general education
teacher, and/or interventionist if your school has one working with students.
Fees for this 3 day series are $110/person, inclusive of
breakfast and lunch at the training sessions. Registering
reserves your spot for each of the 3 (or 4) dates listed below. The work day is
optional. Your school district will be billed for the training after the
March event. The expectation is that this content and learning will be
taken back to the school and shared with all teachers in the building. A series
of supports for this will be provided. Planning time will be a part of
each session.
11.7.2016: Math Intervention and Assessment: Best
Practices for Struggling Learners
The workshop will provide an overview of effective
mathematics practices. The purpose of assessment and uses for assessment data
will be discussed. Information will be provided on how teams can structure
discussion to support mathematics instruction and intervention. Evidence based
practices in data utilization and instruction/intervention will be provided.
Planning time will be provided for teams to create action plans that can be
utilized in their buildings. Breakfast
& lunch provided.
12.8.2016: Data-Based Decision Making in Mathematics:
Strategies for Students who Struggle
The purpose of this workshop will be to discuss best
practices in data-based decision-making in mathematics. Participants will learn
more about screening and progress monitoring in mathematics and how to use this
data. Teachers are encouraged to bring their students’ mathematics data. In
addition, participants will learn more about matching intervention to need
using diagnostic tools and how to problem solve through data to make better
decisions about instruction. Breakfast
& lunch provided.
1.20.2017: Math Teams Workday (optional)
This is an optional opportunity for your team to work
together away from your school site. All teams are invited to the ESU to work
as teams, collaborate with other schools and seek support for questions that
arise in your work. Lunch on
your own for this session.
3.9.2017: Effective Math Instruction for Students
with Disabilities
In this session, we focus on effective mathematics
practices for students across grades K through 3. We discuss using explicit
instruction, using concrete-representational-abstract framework, and building
fluency through evidence-based practices. General and special educators will
learn how to provide instruction on early numeracy skills, math facts, place
value, whole-number computation, time, and money. Breakfast & lunch provided.
